TONGUE CLEANING FOR BAD BREATH  by

 R. Drysdale
4/5/2008 at 06:11
Oral malodor experts tell us that tongue cleaning for bad breath is the single most important preventative step we can take. Why? Because the offensive odor associated with bad breath is produced by bacteria living in the mouth and vast numbers of these bacteria actually live and reproduce on the surface of the tongue. Many details are still unknown about halitosis causes and cures, but this much is documented scientific fact.

The relationship between halitosis and tongue bacteria came to light as soon as it was understood that anaerobic bacteria - just one group among the many types of bacteria that normally inhabit the mouth - produce foul smelling volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) as a byproduct of protein metabolism. Anaerobes thrive in locations where there is very little or no oxygen: decreasing the number and area of those locations decreases the number of anaerobes and is the basis of the logic that tongue cleaning for bad breath is effective.

The architecture of the back of the tongue provides ideal habitat for anaerobic bacteria. There, the tongue surface is grooved and divided creating deep crevices where anaerobes produce halitosis and tongue coatings of mucous that help to protect these bacteria from harmful oxygen. Tongue cleaning for bad breath not only removes the mucous, exposing more surface area to oxygen, it also physically removes a lot of the bacteria. In an otherwise healthy mouth, this may represent the majority of anaerobes that are present.

Tongue cleaning for bad breath involves either gently brushing or scraping ...

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MOUTH  by

 Katie Johnson
4/5/2008 at 06:10
Maintaining good oral hygiene and dental care has several benefits discussed below. Successful mouth care not only means use of quality cleaning products but it also means spending time using the right methods recommended for the care of your teeth or mouth.

Generally, good health is as important as cleanliness for maintaining a healthy mouth and teeth. The relationship is well established between good teeth and a diet with enough calcium, phosphorous and Vitamin D which is necessary for the body to make use of these minerals. A good digestive process and sustatory pleasure are enhanced when the mouth and teeth are in good condition. These together with the tongue begin digestion and play very important roles by breaking up food particles and mixing with saliva which is also an important mechanical cleaner of the mouth.

Dental carries is a very common teeth problem. This comes about due to failure to remove plaque which is destructive bacterial film that builds up on the teeth and with the passage of time leads to the destructive of tooth enamel. A good plaque fighting program means eliminating of sweet snacks such as soft drinks, candy, gum, jams, and jellies between meals, thorough cleansing and regular dental check ups. Also, use of antiplaque fluoride toothpastes, mouth rinses, and flossing help prevent dental caries.

Another problem is gingivitis disease, which is an inflammation of the gingival the tissue that surrounds the teeth. Pyorrhea or periodontal disease also is an inflammation of the gums including bleeding gums, swollen, red, ...

TEETH PROTECTING WITH GOOD DIET  by

In addition to brushing and flossing, a healthful diet protects teeth from decay and keeps the gums healthy. Read on to discover how to keep your smile safe and strong.Tooth decay (cavities and dental caries) and gum disease are caused by colonies of bacteria that constantly coat the teeth with a sticky film called plaque. If plaque is not brushed away, these bacteria break down the sugars and starches in foods to produce acids that wear away the tooth enamel. The plaque also hardens into tartar, which can lead to gum inflammation, or gingivitis.

A well-balanced diet provides the minerals, vitamins, and other nutrients essential for healthy teeth and gums. Fluoride, occurring naturally in foods and water, or added to the water supply, can be a powerful tool in fighting decay. It can reduce the rate of cavities by as much as 60 percent.

The Sugar Factor and Tooth Decay

Sucrose, most familiar to us as granulated sugar, is the leading cause of tooth decay, but it is far from the only culprit. Although sugary foods, including cookies, candies, and sodas, are major offenders, starchy foods (such as breads and cereals) also play an important part in tooth decay. When starches mix with amylase, an enzyme in saliva, the result is an acid bath that erodes the enamel and makes teeth more susceptible to decay. If starchy foods linger in the mouth, the acid bath is prolonged, and the potential for damage is all the greater.

Be careful when eating dried fruits. Dried fruits ...

ALOE VERA FOR A HEALTHY AND BEAUTIFUL SMILE  by

 Chaz Milles
4/5/2008 at 06:07
People suffering from serious diseases who have underwent a treatment with Aloe products showed that these products were satisfactory enough and surprisingly efficient. One of their many applications regards teeth care or general dentistry.

Contemporary society seems to stress teeth care as a crucial point of our life, both from a hygienic reason and an aesthetic one. Digestion begins in the mouth due to the chemical action of various substances located there and also because of the more mechanical function of teeth. Chewing should never be understated. Moreover, the cultural significance of smile seems to amplify the urge to pay attention the quality and the state our teeth are in. Almost all toothpaste commercials underline the health aspect and the visual side of a vigorous dentition. So, if you want to ensure a reliable starting point for your digestion, or if you want to display - or at least not to be embarrassed by - your smile, you should pay a little attention to your dentist’s suggestions.

How do Aloe products affect our teeth, and why should we choose them over the classical toothpastes? If we learned a little about the general properties of Aloe, we should already know that it prevents infection caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, it stimulates cell regeneration and has a general purifying action, not to mention its’ calming effect. Therefore, Aloe is an excellent solution to a range of mouth problems, like gingivitis, peridontitis, stomatitis, bad breath, reduces the possibility of plaque, not to mention the ...

THE TOP 5 NATURAL CURES FOR BAD BREATH  by

Having bad breath can be a major problem that interferes with your career, your social circle, and of course your intimate relationships as well. There are many things that people do to mask bad breath and sometimes when you have no other options - and the boss is walking your way! - it might be advisable to grab that mint or stick of gum. But if you’re interested in the top 5 natural cures for bad breath, then you’re in luck. After all, why not cure a condition if you can, rather than constantly trying to cover it up?

One of the top 5 natural cures for bad breath is chewing parsley or mint leaves. There are two reasons these seem to work. The first is that they are both very heavy in natural oils, which lubricate your mouth and help to move out food particles that break down and cause bad breath due to bacteria. They also help to neutralize stomach acids, which also cause bad breath.

Another one of the top 5 natural cures for bad breath is milk thistle, available at most health food stores or pharmacies. Milk thistle is thought to work as a curative on the liver, helping to move bacteria through this natural filter and out of the body.

Silica or silicon dioxide is another of the top 5 natural cures for bad breath, as it too is thought to get rid of toxins and foreign substances in the body. Silica appears naturally in the body but ...

TIPS ON HOW TO GET YOUR TODDLER TO BRUSH THEIR TEETH  by

 Teal Taggart
4/5/2008 at 06:02
When your child becomes a toddler, brushing his/her teeth can be a huge challenge. And in their world sometimes frightening. But brushing is something that has to be done to keep their teeth in good condition before the next dentist visit. I found that these tips, along with a few of my own to be very helpful.

Tip 1: Purchase a spin brush. Have your child help pick it out. Brushing with their super-hero or other favorite idol gives them something to look forward to when it’s time to brush.

Tip 2: Make sure that the toothpaste is flouride-free. Just at first until your child has mastered the whole brush and spit it out thing.

Tip 3: Make it fun!! Tell them an exciting story about pirates or princesses. Sing them a song all the while brushing in a circular motion and hitting each tooth.

Tip 4: Set a good example, If your toddler sees you brushing and enjoying it, they will be more apt to trying it.

Tip 5: Don’t give up. The first couple of times that you try this you might not see many results, but if you stick to the routine, your toddler will for sure LOVE it!!

Toddlers can be very active and convincing them to hold still long enough to do a good job can be a real challenge. If you make if fun for them, than they realize that it’s not painful or scary, and will begin to look forward to brush time.

IS THERE A CURE FOR GRINDING TEETH?  by

 Brian Somtok
4/5/2008 at 06:02
Millions of people suffer from Bruxism which is the term for teeth grinding. Grinding teeth is something that is caused by any number of things but most doctors and dentists blame it on stress and anxiety. It can also be caused by abnormal biting, sleep disorders, and crooked teeth. As you can tell, if you are a sufferer of bruxism, it may not be easy to determine exactly why.

Teeth grinding can be mild or it can be so violent that the teeth become damaged. Most people who suffer from bruxism have a mild case of grinding teeth at night while they sleep. Many of them might not even know they do it. Over time however, this nightly damage can add up to some serious damaging of the teeth. If you know you grind your teeth at night, it is best to find a solution now rather than waiting until more damage is done.

In some cases, the biting at night can be much stronger than what you might do when you are awake during the day. People have been known to exert up to five times more pressure at night than they do when they are awake. This leads to jaw aches, head aches, chipped teeth, and worn down teeth.

Is there a cure to grinding teeth? Most dentists will want to fit you with a mouth guard to use while you sleep. These are custom made and thus quite expensive, usually costing over $500.00. If you get one of these mouth ...

BAD BREATH - WHAT CAUSES BAD BREATH?  by

 Corwin Brown
4/5/2008 at 05:59
Bad breath, or halitosis, can be a major problem, especially when you’re about to snuggle with your sweetie or whisper a joke to your friend. The good news is that bad breath can often be prevented with some simple steps.

The foods eaten also are a potential cause of halitosis. Certain foods, such as garlic, onions and certain spices are frequently cited as cause for a person’s bad breath. Both vegetarians and those who eat large quantities of meat may develop bad breath due, in part, to the digestive process. Digestion begins in the mouth. Saliva has enzymes which begin the digestion process, and the type of food eaten can affect the food chemistry of the mouth. Saliva will also pick up odors from food within several hours after it has been eaten. Odors are strongest from carbohydrates - sugars, starches and cellulose, less strong from proteins, and nonexistent from fats. Bacteria in the mouth react with the decaying food and drink residue and can be the source of the foul odor.

Gum disease, most certainly, can cause bad breath, because food trapped in gum pockets can rot and ferment, which releases sulfur products, and increases tartar buildup on the teeth, which also traps bacteria that release sulfur products. Most know that smoking causes bad breath, and that heart problems eventually result from the habit, but few realize that smoking causes gum disease, and that gum disease can cause heart problems.

Bad breath is also associated with sinus infections because nasal discharge from ...

ALTERNATIVES TO FLOURIDE  by

 Mike Scantlebury
4/5/2008 at 05:58
I live in Manchester, England. It’s a unique city. Apart from hosting one of the most famous football teams in the world, and having one of the dampest climates, (although Seattle is worse, apparently), it also has one of the strangest attributes in the country: it has clean water. No fluoride has been added. As most people know, fluoride is a rare metal that is hard to find in nature, but since the 1960s British families have been entertaining it every day - in the water that they drink from the tap.

Fluoride is a poison. You’re not advised to take a bottle of it and swallow it, you’d die. However, in small doses, it’s claimed that it has a rare property: it can save your teeth from decay. Research has shown, or so it is claimed, that small quantities of fluoride in the water that we drink can strengthen the enamel in our teeth and prevent the formation of cavities. Since English children have some of the worst teeth in the world, anything that can help to prevent further decay is seen as a good thing, no matter how outlandish. Because of course, it’s a strange plan. Here’s the proposition: we will add something to your water that is in itself a hazard, but it will avoid an even worse problem, tooth decay. Who could possibly vote against that? Manchester did. They’ve kept the water free of this metallic additive for almost two generations, while the rest of the ground ...
